The 69th IAEA General Conference in Vienna, Austria.

The Principal Secretary for Cabinet Affairs, Dr. Idris Salim Dokota,CBS, attending the 69th Regular Session of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference, which took taking place in Vienna, Austria, from 15th to 19th September 2025.

The Kenyan delegation was led by the Principal Secretary for Science, Research and Innovation, Dr. Abdulrazak Shaukat, together with the Chief Executive Officer of the Nuclear Power and Energy Agency (NuPEA), Mr. Justus Wabuyabo, and Kenya’s Ambassador to Austria, Amb. Maurice Makolo.

This year’s theme, “Atoms for Water”, underscores the role of nuclear science and technology in supporting sustainable water management systems globally.

Kenya’s participation at this high-level forum reflects the Government’s commitment to:

Advancing energy security through the development of nuclear power as part of a diversified and reliable energy mix.

Expanding nuclear medicine to enhance diagnosis and treatment of cancer and other diseases.

Applying nuclear techniques to strengthen agriculture, food security, and resilience to climate change.

Utilizing radiation-based technologies for environmental protection, water resource management, and pollution control.

The General Conference brought together ministers, senior government officials, and technical experts from over 170 Member States to deliberate on the peaceful applications of nuclear technology, nuclear safety and security, technical cooperation, and global energy sustainability.

Kenya reaffirms its dedication to international cooperation, peace, and the responsible use of nuclear science and technology in driving the country’s social and economic transformation.
