A New Dawn for Learners in Kipao: Faith, Education, and Community Resilience United

The people of Kipao Location, Ngao Ward, in Tana River County witnessed a truly historic and inspiring moment as the Principal Secretary for the State Department for Cabinet Affairs, Dr. Idris Salim Dokota, PhD, CBS, presided over the official opening of a newly constructed mosque at Kipao Secondary School. The milestone represented far more than the commissioning of a physical structure; it symbolized dignity restored, hope renewed, and progress realized for learners and the wider community.

For many years, students of Kipao Secondary School had been compelled to conduct their prayers under a tree due to the absence of a designated place of worship. While speaking during the event, PS Dokota underscored the significance of the mosque, noting that access to a proper place of worship was a matter of dignity and inclusion. He emphasized that education had to be holistic, nurturing not only academic excellence but also moral values, spiritual growth, and strong character among learners. The mosque, he noted, would serve as a foundation for shaping disciplined, responsible, and values-driven citizens.

The occasion powerfully highlighted the critical role that places of worship played within learning institutions. Beyond spiritual nourishment, such spaces helped inculcate values of respect, tolerance, responsibility, peaceful coexistence, and social harmony values that were indispensable for nation building and cohesive societies. The mosque at Kipao Secondary School now stood as a beacon of unity and shared purpose, reinforcing the link between education, faith, and national values.

PS Dokota expressed appreciation to the well-wishers, partners, and members of the local community whose unity, generosity, and collective effort had made the construction of the mosque possible. He noted that the achievement was a strong reminder that when communities came together with a shared vision, they could overcome limitations and transform learning environments for the benefit of future generations.

During his visit, the PS also toured Kipao Comprehensive Primary School and Kipao Secondary School, where he engaged with school leadership, teachers, and Boards of Management. The discussions focused on learning conditions, student performance, staff welfare, and the important role of community participation in advancing education within Kipao Location an area that faced unique social, economic, and infrastructural challenges.

He commended teachers and school administrators for their dedication and resilience, particularly for their efforts in supporting needy learners and orphans. PS Dokota emphasized that motivated and well-supported teachers were central to improved learning outcomes, and he called for continued attention to staff welfare, promotions, and morale to sustain progress in education.

At Kipao Secondary School, under the leadership of Principal Mr. Moses Murima, the PS noted with pride the school’s steady growth since its establishment in 2018. From humble beginnings, the school had grown to serve approximately 500 learners and had successfully sent five students to national schools, a remarkable achievement despite challenges such as teacher shortages, infrastructure gaps, limited water and power supply, and security needs. This progress stood as a testament to commitment, teamwork, and perseverance.

Earlier in the day, PS Dokota had also distributed relief food supplies, including cooking oil, green grams, and rice, to residents of Ngao, Kipao Location. The intervention had come at a critical time, as the region continued to grapple with the effects of a prolonged dry season. The relief support helped cushion vulnerable households against drought-induced food shortages and demonstrated Government solidarity with communities affected by climate-related challenges.

Overall, the day’s activities reflected a holistic approach to development that recognized the close connection between education, faith, social protection, and community resilience. By supporting learners’ spiritual and academic needs while standing with families during times of hardship, the Government reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive development, quality education, and the well-being of all Kenyans.
