PS Dokota participates in a tree growing activity in Chepalungu Forest
The Principal Secretary, Dr. Dokota participated in a joint tree growing activity that was coordinated by the Executive Office of the President where over 100,000 tree seedlings were planted to restore Chepalungu Forest.
The activity was led by the Deputy Head of Public Service, Amos Gathecha who was accompanied by other senior officials from the Executive Office of the President.
Dr. Dokota reiterated the presidents rallying call to plant 15b trees to increase the country’s forest cover from 12% to 30% by 2032. The State Department has a target of 4.4m and is making efforts to achieve the target. He encouraged the community in Chepalungu to plant more trees to spur economic growth. Chepalungu Forest sits on a 4,500acres of land and is the biggest community forest in the region. During the activity, the community received a donation of 3,000 mango and avocado trees and other exotic trees to plant for economic use from stakeholders.
The Governor, Hillary Barchok said the county plans to introduce special and friendly wildlife to open up the county as a tourist circuit and spur economic growth. Plans will also be put in place to ensure harmonious human wildlife co- existence.
The joint activity was also attended by county leadership, national government administrative officers, non-governmental organizations , community-based organizations, Kenya Forest Service among other stakeholders.
